DOE has conditionally selected Standard Nuclear at ETTP in the Oak Ridge Corridor as the first U.S. company accepted into its recently announced “fuel line pilot program” to eliminate America’s reliance on foreign sources of enriched uranium and critical materials while opening the door for private sector investment in America’s nuclear renaissance.
“Advanced nuclear reactors will be a game-changer for the United States, and with that comes the need to fabricate the fuel for these reactors,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. “The Department of Energy is partnering private sector innovation with DOE expertise to assure stronger U.S. nuclear supply lines.”
This week DOE also signed a lease with General Matter LLC for the reuse of a 100-acre parcel of federal land at the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant for a new private-sector domestic uranium enrichment facility. “Leveraging the resources of the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, including its skilled nuclear workforce and existing infrastructure, is unlocking private funding and fast-tracking commercial licensing activities,” said DOE Office of Environmental Management Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Roger Jarrell.
