We are cleaning up contaminated, unused facilities on the Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR). In addition to removing excess facilities, we maintain facilities across ORR that are waiting for disposition. We also provide critical upgrades to extend the life of active, but aging, facilities. This continues the same work done by the former UCOR from 2011 to 2022.

It involved careful placement and 5,000 hours of welding. Workers completed the two-year effort $900,000 under budget and three months ahead of schedule.

The iconic 3039 stack has towered over the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) since the lab’s earliest days, providing ventilation to operations at the site. However, recent inspections revealed portions of the landmark had deteriorated and required repairs. The Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management (OREM) performs periodic inspections of the structure to identify any defects or other issues.

The Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management and contractor UCOR recently completed an extensive piping replacement project to extend the life of the Liquid and Gaseous Waste Operations (LGWO) system at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Replacing the piping and completing other upgrades alleviates the recurring need for maintenance and repair of aging infrastructure built many decades ago and ensures the system’s reliability.

At a ceremony in New York yesterday, United Cleanup Oak Ridge (UCOR) was recognized with the 2024 Top Workplaces USA award. The award, from USA Today and Energage, was based solely on feedback provided by the UCOR workforce. UCOR is the lead cleanup contractor for the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Oak Ridge Reservation.

Today, United Cleanup Oak Ridge (UCOR) took a major step forward in the company’s ability to recruit and retain skilled construction trade workers. The company signed a national Project Labor Agreement (PLA) with North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU), which increases UCOR’s ability to offer a competitive compensation package.
